Calgary, Alberta - September 18, 2007 - The Canadian Reining Breeders Classic wrapped up September 15, ranking in the top fifteen of the NRHA show in the world and host to some of the finest riders and horse teams in North America. The show paid out over $123,000 during the course of its 3-day run at PineRidge Equine Park in Winnipeg, MB.
In conjunction with the CRBC Classic Classes, the CRBC hosted the Western Canada NRHA Affiliate Finals providing the top 4 finalists with an invite to Oklahoma City and some wonderful prizes supplied by Classic Equine, Anderson Bean Boots and the NRHA. Not to mention 3 championship saddles! Two saddles were awarded to the winners of the NRHA Saddle Series Competition.
The duos earned the right to compete for the prestigious awards by being the top pairs from each of their respective Affiliate Circuits during 2007. Shawna Sapergia aboard Ima Docs High Sign won the NRHA Open saddle and Tanya Turner on board Peppys On Top won the NRHA Non Pro saddle. The champion of the Western Canada NRHA Rookie Affiliate Finals, Marg Fraser and her gelding, Cody Jac Pine took home a champion saddle sponsored Lazy J Performance Horses and The Mill Store.
Thanks goes out to Miracle Ranch Equipment of Winnipeg, MB for offering a year lease on a horse trailer, which was presented in a random draw of all Non Pro's entered in either the CRBC Classic Non Pro Futurity and CRBC Classic Non Pro Derby. Vanessa Noble was the lucky recipient of the fabulous trailer.
The Open Futurity Championship was shared with two dynamic horses. Kim Dierks, scoring 220 on Do It Different, sired by Tejons Peppy Doc, owned by Russet Stables and Cody Sapergia aboard Laredo Whiz, sired by Topsail Whiz, owned by Lance Griffin. Cody and Kim each won $8,052.37 for their stellar performances. In addition, to the fabulous prize money a Championship Saddle was awarded to the pair sponsored by Phillip Solum. In third place was Locke Duce on Skyes Target Jac with a 216, sired by Jacs Main Sail, owned by Southline Quarter Horses earning $4,717.31.
Judi Hale earned fourth place winnings of $2,744.89 on Solar Electric, sired by Jacs Electric Spark. Shawna Sapergia & Vicki Braun shared fifth place. Shawna on Kinda Sugary, sired by Topsail Whiz earning of $2,076.98. Vicki and Solanos Chic Magnet sired by Solanos Peppy San also pick up a pay cheque for $2,075.98.
The Intermediate Open Futurity Championship and the cheque for $2,243.27 went to Kim Dierks aboard Do It Different. Locke Duce garnered the Reserve Intermediate Open Futurity Championship Title along with a pay cheque for $1,781.42 aboard Skyes Target Jac. Rounding out the final three pay spots were Judi Hale and Solar Electric earning $1,319.57, Vicki Braun and Solanos Chic Magnet earning $659.79 and Guy Robertson aboard Sail On A Dun, sired by Topsail Whiz, It earning $593.81.
The Limited Open Futurity Championship went to Vicki Braun, who also tied for fifth in the Open Futurity. Vicki and Solanos Chic Magnet won $763.14. Second place went to Guy Robertson and Sail On A Dun It, with earnings of $572.36. Wayne Latimer aboard Smart Nic A Chic, sired by Chics in The Male, earned $381.57 for their third place finish. Cheryl Mitchell and Topline Royaleo, sired by Topline Eldorado slide into fourth and a $190.79 paycheck.
In addition to the CRBC Open and Limited Open Classic Futurity the CRBC offers a $2500 added Open to the World Futurity which was won by Cody Sapergia and Laredo Whiz earning a total of $1,051.88. Guy Robertson and Sail On A Dun It earned the Champion Title in the Open to the World Limited Open Futurity and earned $561.
Lance Griffin on Hollywood Benz, sired by Smart Starbuck, scoring 215.5, earned the CRBC Non Pro Futurity Championship. Mr. Griffin took home a $3000 paycheck. Mr. Griffin's win in the Non Pro Futurity help push Mr. Griffin to the first ever NRHA Million Dollar Owner mark. Amanda Antifeav and Tag Chex Topsail sired by Whiz N Tag Chex, finished second with a score of 213 and an extra $1,771.63 in her pocket. Third place and $1,530.04 went to Danielle Hall aboard BL Whizabelle sired by BL Whiz Kid, with a score of 211. Garth Dedora and Girls Nugget, sired by Prime Time Chex scored 209.5, which made them eligible for the money. The pair earned $805.29. Matt Vatnsdal aboard Chics Player earning $724.76 captured the fifth spot and Samantha Griffin snuck into the final pay spot with Smart N Great Sstar and earned $221.14.
The CRBC Limited Non Pro Futurity Championship went to Danielle Hall of Delacour, AB. Danielle earned $924.74 with a score of 211. The Reserve Champion was Garth Dedora on Girls Nugget with a score of 209.5. Garth earned $693.56 in addition to his fourth place winnings in the Non Pro Futurity. Matt Vantsdal snuck into third place, earning a$462.37 and Patrick Cleaver slide into the final pay spot earning $231.19.
Saturday evening, the CRBC Open, Intermediate Open and Limited Open Derby competitors did not disappoint the crowd. The Open Derby Championship provided some of the best reining ever seen on Canadian soil. Nail biting excitement till the end the crowd saw Dean Brown Tinesel Jac, sired by Tinsel Nic, capture the Champion Title with a 226.5, collecting $15,000. In addition to the paycheck Mr. Brown won a stunning leather chair donated by Gerry and Irene Loewen. Following close behind was Cody Sapergia on Whizter Chic, winning the pair $7,017.24. Cody Sapergia on Mr. Tivio Whiz and Jarvis Anderson on Bay Shine shared third place with each duo marking a 225 and earning $4,176.93. Fifth place and a paycheck of $2,673.24 went to Shawna Sapergia and This Chics On Top, with a score of 223.5. Kim Dierks and Bachelor Chic and Shawna Sapergia and Chic Olena Whiz shared the last paying spot with a 223 and each earned $751.75.
The CRBC Intermediate Open Championship went to Jarvis Anderson of Montana aboard Bay Shine, sired by Shining Spark. Jarvis and Bay Shine earned $2,141.55 for their 225 performance. Kim Diercks and Bachelor Chic slide into the Reserve finish with a 223 earning $1,472.32. In third spot Jarvis Anderson aboard Hercs Midnite Roost earned $1,271.55 with a score of 222. Jim Anderson of Strathmore, Alberta and Four Z Eyed Peppy earned $669.24 for their 221.5 run and Jim also captured the fifth spot paycheck of $601.31 aboard Precision Technique. In sixth was Vicki Braun aboard Topsail Solano earning $535.39.
The CRBC Limited Open Derby Championship went to Vicki Braun and Topsail Solano, sired by Solanos Peppy San. The pair's score of 218.5 earned them $727.06 in addition to their earnings in the Intermediate Open. Second place went to Great Taco Gal, sired by Hes A Bueno Jac. A score of 215 earned them $545.29. Wendy Robinson on Gallos Candy Comet earned $363.53 for their 3rd place finish and Wendy aboard Melody in G Major earned $181.76 for their 4th place finish.
The Non Pro Derby Championship went to Samantha Griffin on the 2006 CRBC Non Pro Futurity Champion, Kachina Oak Olena, sired by Smart Chic Olena out of Kachina Oak with a score of 224. Samantha and Kachina Oak Olena earned $5,000. Samantha Griffin's win in the Non Pro Derby was a mile marker for owner Lance Griffin. The $5,000 paycheck pushed Lance Griffin to the first ever NRHA Million Dollar Owner mark. The Reserve Champion was shared with Jaime Demott aboard Lil Wrangler Joe, sired by Topsail Whiz and Greg Gottschalk on Chromed Tejon, sired by Tejon Peppy Doc. Each pair earned $3,380.67. Continuing on third place went to Samantha Griffin A Bright Chic, sired by Peppy Chic Olena. With a score of 215, the pair earned $1,257.93. Fourth place went to Tanya Turner on Peppys On Top, sired by Solanos Peppy San. Tanya earned$1,100.68. Fifth and Sixth place went to Geri Greenall and Chic to a Hen, sired by Chic Please and Geri Greenall and Lena Lil Wright, sired by Listo Pollito Lena. Geri collected a cumulative paycheck of $471.72 for her efforts.
The Ltd Non Pro Derby Championship went to Jaime Demott and Lil Wrangler Joe. They pair collected $1,525.70. Tanya Turned and Peppys on Top captured the Reserve finish, which earned them $1,211.59. Geri Greenall and Chic to a Hen and Geri Greenall and Lena Lil Wright shared third and fourth place with each mare collecting $673.10. The final paycheck went to fifth place and Wendy Williams aboard Nifty Beginnings as they collected $403.86.
In addition to the Western Canada NRHA Affiliate Finals classes, the CRBC Classic Derby and Futurity classes and a full slate of NRHA Ancillary classes the CRBC hosted its second Annual CRI competition. The CRBC CRI was a pivotal factor in determining Canada's two representatives for the 2007 FEI Masters slated to be held at the NRHA Futurity & North American Championship Show. While Nicole Brown, Gregg Lauder and Amanda Self battled it in the CRI it was Cochrane, Alberta trainer Gregg Lauder who amassed enough points to earn the second rider spot for Canada. Dany Tremblay of Quebec will be Canada's other representative.
In addition to the significant paychecks earned winners took home minerals sponsored by A.L. Distributing, sheets, winter blankets and bridle bags provided by Glover Equine and other prizes sponsored by Dr. Cyndi Kasper, Hoof & Nail Farrier Supplies, Horses All, Mass Reining Horses, and The Mill Store.
With dedication and hard work, the CRBC's goal is to promote the reining industry in Canada. The Griffin's are avid supporters and participants in the NRHA and NRBC and started the CRBC in 2003. The CRBC has many friends who continue to support and promote the program to horse lovers across the world.
